Eight Chin CSOs issued a statement on December 28th, calling for the appointment of a candidate who has political, military and administrative experiences as a new
Chin State Chief Minister.
Peter Lwel Lu Spokesperson said: “We want the new Chief Minister to have qualifications and experience in all sectors. The issuance of this statement aims to ensure the appointment of the chief minister who can do more for the development of Chin State and someone who has empathy with Chin people.”
He Eight Chin CSOs are: Khumi Youth Association (KYA), Khumi Youth Association (Yangon), Third Eye Organization, Vabawk Organization, Taungzalat Youth Organization, Chin Women Organization, Matu Social Development Organization and the Central Chin Youth Organization.
It needs to choose the candidate who can work for justice in Chin State, support sustainable development, negotiate between the civil and military for regional peace and security and the rule of law, make constructive engagement with any organization for the national interest rather than self-interest”, the statement says.
The candidate with above-mentioned qualifications should be appointed as a chief minister, as Chin State is the poorest state in Myanmar and has the highest rate of corruption, unbalanced allocation of budget and weak management of government leaders.,” according to one survey.
Among the winning candidates in Chin State, Chin State Minister for Development Affairs U Soe Htet alone served as a lieutenant colonel in the army.
Monywa Aung Shin, Spokesperson of the NLD told the media that around half of the sitting Chief Ministers of regions and states may be included in the new government.
