Kachin State will recruit nearly 900 extra police to protect polling stations

Extra police officers will be recruited to cover the 890 polling stations in Kachin State for the 2020 election.

Captain U Kyaw Zin of the Kachin State Police Office said: “The Kachin State police will recruit 890 people in order to assign one special part-time police officer to each polling station. Currently, the recruitment process is underway.”

The qualifications for an applicant are: the age from 18 to 60, in good health and physically fit, and educational level of at least above the middle-level education.

The selected special police candidates members will undergo a one-month training about their election duties from October  1- 31.

The police members will enjoy a monthly salary of Ks 140,000 and a daily fee of Ks 1,800. They will have to perform their duties for two months.

In the 2015 General Elections, 891 special police were appointed in Kachin State.

A special police member can enjoy a monthly salary of Ks 120,000 and a monthly fee of Ks 30,000.

Ko Aye Ko, a local from Waingmaw Township said: “My friend and I plan to apply for the post. Salary is not my main motivation. I plan to apply for this post in order to get experience about the election process.”

A total of 19 political parties will compete in the 2020 General Elections in Kachin State. There are more than 1,080,000 eligible voters, according to the Kachin State Election Sub-Commission.
