People in the Tedim Township of Chin State are expecting a new government will improve regional development in the post-election period.

U Htaung Shan Tone, Chair of Tedim Youth Fellowship said: “The main point is to choose the candidates who can prioritize the regional development tasks as well as the needs of people living in Tedim.

He claims that the current MPs are doing nothing for Tedim and only when there is a special emergency do they help their towns and villages. Our township is not included on the priority list. I have decided to choose the persons who can implement their pledges and work for Tedim.”

Tedim Township has the second largest number of eligible voters in Chin State. Tedim Township needs electricity and drinking water projects.

U Mon Noe, General-Secretary of Tedim Youth Fellowship said: “The most important thing for Tedim Township is electricity. The successive governments failed to implement the pledges they made in the election campaign. There will not be any regional development as long as Tedim lacks electricity. Another problem is drinking water. Tedim does not have sufficient drinking water to supply a growing population. I want the new government to implement the water supply project for Tedim Township.”

Tedim Township has an estimated population of more than 96,000. It has four wards, 55 village-tracts and 130 villages. Tedim is the second largest city of Chin State after the capital city, Hakha. Local youths want a new government which can open a college after the 2020 General Election, as there are no colleges in Tedim.

“As a local youth, I want the government to designate Tedim as a district, as well as to build a college,” said Tan Lyan Zarkhawar who is working as Tedim CSOs volunteer for COVID-19 Emergency Committee.

Tedim is not part of the national power grid, and electricity is only available every two days.
