Special places for advance voting will permit voters forced to stay-at-home in townships to prevent the spread of covid-19 will be able to cast their votes instead of going to polling stations on Election Day.

The Ministry of Health and Sports issued an order on October 25th, in order to facilitate safe voting and ensure the success of the general election slated for November 8.

The Ministry imposed the stay-at-home orders in all townships in Yangon Region (except CoCokyun Township), Mawlamyine and Bilin Townships in Mon State, Mahaaungmyay, Chanayethazan and Amarapura Townships in Mandalay Region, Kawa, Thautpin and Bago Townships in Bago Region, Pathein, Pyapone and Maubin Townships in Ayeyawady Region and Hpakant and Mohnyin Townships in Kachin State.

As a preventive measure against the COVID-19, the ministry had issued an order dated August 12th, banning the gatherings of more than 30 people.

Now the ministry has allowed the gathering of more than 30 people in order to successfully hold the general election on November 8, and to prepare for the polling stations in accordance with the rules and regulations jointly coordinated by the Union Election Commission (UEC) and the Ministry of Health and Sports.
