The authorities filed the case against two detained reporters in Myitkyina-Kachin State under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code on March 1st.

The two reporters were beaten and arrested by security forces when they were covering the news on the anti-coup protests on March 29th.

The detainees are Ma Chan Bu from the 74 Media and Ko La Yaw from Kachin Waves. They have been detained at No.1 Myitkyina Police Station, and will soon be sent to Myitkyina Prison.

An official of the 74 Media said: “They have been charged under Section 505 (a). I don’t know when they will appear in court.”

Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code is a non-cognizable offense and carries up to two-year’s imprisonment.

The army arrested and released some reporters covering the anti-coup protests in Kachin State after the coordination of the Kachin Peace-Talk Creation Group.
