Two officials from Linkhae District General Administration Department were injured due to the shootings in Mongpan Township in Linkhae District in the southern Shan State on October 27th.
The commissioner of Linkhae District General Administration Department and the party faced the attacks while coming back, after distributing polling materials to Mongpan Township.
Sai Kyaw Khaing, a candidate from the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) said: “On the afternoon of October 27th, the commissioner of the Linkhae District General Administration Department and the party went to villages in Mongpan Township to dispatch polling materials and inspect the polling stations. The officials of Linkhae District General Administration faced an attack on their way back, due to the shootings by an unidentified armed group. Both officials had injuries to their legs and hands.”
Sai Kyaw Khaing added “There is no village where the attack took place, only forest. The driver who picked up the injured told me by phone the sound of gunshots were heard. The district GAD commissioner and the deputy administrator were injured. They have been sent to Linkhae Hospital.” The injured were later transferred to Sao San Htun Hospital in Taunggyi Township.
The Restoration Council of Shan State/ Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), Pa-O Armed Organization and the people’s militia are active in Mongpan Township.
