The police arrested three young members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Taungup Township in Arakan State on the morning of February 17th.

 

The detainees are Youth in-charge of the NLD Ko Chit Maung Maung from Natmaw village, U Khin Thet and Ko Zaw Win Aung, according to the Taungup Township NLD.

 

Daw Chit Chit Chaw, a NLD member from Taunggup Township provided more details.” “The police arrested them when they were on the way to Taungup to stage the anti-coup protest. They are being detained at Taungup Police Station. No charges have been filed against them. The police arrested them when they were on the way to downtown Taungup together with around 50 people, to stage the anti-coup protest.”

Currently, the police have arrested U Tin Thein Aung, Chair of Taunggup Township NLD and former Arakan State MP U Min Aung. Their families have lost contact with the detainees.
