Six female candidates have secured the seats in Kayah State so far, according to local sources.
The elected female candidates are three for lower house parliament, one for upper house parliament and two for Kayah State parliament.
This is a breakthrough and the first time for women to be elected as lawmakers in Kayah State parliament. Candidate Dew Al Baling from the Kaya State Democratic Party (Kids) secured the Kaya State constituency-2 in Pharos Township and candidate Dew Khan Mar Win from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Constituency-2 in Shartaw Township.
Female candidates from 12 political parties in Kaya State competed in the 2020 General Election. There are 34 constituencies in Kayah State.
According to the ground information, the NLD secured 20 seats, Kids, eight seats and the USDP, six seats in Kayah State.
The Union Election Commission (UEC) has not yet released the official results.
