The Shan State government honours civil servants who decided to bravely defy the military coup as “designated official holidays” for civil servants during this interim period until the formation of a new state government according to U Soe Nyunt Lwin, spokesperson of the Shan State government on February 9th.

He is also the Shan State Minister for Planning and Finance. The order will be applied to the departments, organizations and offices under the management of Shan State government.

Some staff from the Shan State General Administration Department joined the Civil Disobedience Movement to show their opposition to the military coup.

The Tatmadaw seized the country’s power on February 1st, defining the provisions of the Constitution at will. Civil servants and the public now face many difficulties owing to the coup.

They have chosen to defy the coup in various ways to make it clear they no longer wish to perform their duties under the military government.
