Seven candidates fail to submit their election expenses in Mon State

Seven candidates, who competed in the 2020 General Election in Mon State, have failed to submit their election expenses, according to the Mon State Election Sub-Commission.

The 249 of 256 candidates submitted their election expenses in Min State.

U Hein Lin Htet, Secretary of the Mon State Election Sub-Commission said: “The election sub-commission has displayed the lists of candidates on the notice board, under Section 81 of the election bylaws.”

Those who failed to submit election expenses are: one candidate for Karen Ethnic Affairs Minister, two independent candidates and four candidates from Thaton District.

Those candidates can make an appeal to the Union Election Commission (UEC) to be free from inclusion in the blacklist.

 U Thet Naing Oo, Assistant Director of Thaton District Election Sub-Commission said: “The sub-commission will submit the report to the UEC. The UEC will contact them directly. They can make an appeal to the UEC. The UEC will decide it in conformity with the laws and bylaws.”

Thaton District saw the highest number of candidates who failed to submit their election expenses. A total of 108 candidates from 13 political parties competed in the election in Thaton District. Only 104 candidates submitted their election expenses.

The candidates who failed to submit their election expenses shall be declared “disqualified ones.” Under Section 88 (c), the disqualified candidates shall not be allowed to compete in the by-elections to be held during the current tenure of parliament. They can compete only in the next General Elections.
