Rejected Karen candidate wins his appeal

Yangon Region Election Sub-Commission  has accepted an appeal lodged by a Karen  candidate  running for lower house seat in Taikkyi Township Constituency in Yangon against his disqualification by  the district election sub-commission . .

Yangon North District election sub-commission rejected his candidate application as Saw Albert Cho’s father's name was mistakenly entered on the application form. Saw had changed his household registration certificate (Form-10) from Malamyinegyun Township in Ayeyawady Region to Taikkyi Township in Yangon Region in order to run for the seat representing the United Nationalities Democracy Party (UNDP).

Saw Albert Cho told the KIC.  “The district election sub-commission rejected my application as my father name was wrongly included on the form. I lodged my appeal to the region election sub-commission.  The region election sub-commission accepted my appeal after overturning the district election sub-commission’s decision on August 20,”

The 27-year-old Saw Albert Cho was born in Phyarauke village in Mawlamyinegyun Township in Ayeyawady Region. He passed the matriculation exam in 2011 and attended Insein Karen Baptist Theological Seminary.

After that, he attended the Master Course in the Myanmar Institute of Theology (MIT). After getting the Master Degree in Theology from the MIT, he entered politics by joining the United Nationalities Democracy Party (UNDP) formed by the 1990 elected candidates.

Saw Albert Cho was one of the leaders of the ceremony to mark the 69th Karen Martyr’s Day which on 12 th August, 2019 in the front of Mahabandoola Park in Yangon, together with Naw Ohn Hla and Sa Thein Zaw Min.
