The military council arrested a pre-school teacher staying at IDP camp-2 in Chiphwe Township in Kachin State, for allegedly having a connection with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), according to locals.

The army grabbed her on June 1st apparently for alleged links with the KIA. “The parents of two females filed a complaint that their daughters joined the KIA through the connection of the pre-school teacher,” said a person close to the teacher.

Daw La Baung Khaung Nyol, 40, is a teacher from Zannaungyan pre-school and is a mother of four children. “Security forces took her along with a 3-year-old boy.” said a local who declined to be named. According to locals, the two females joined the KIA of their own volition.

Around 20 soldiers and police members were involved in her arrest and she is now being detained and interrogated at Chiphwe Myoma Police Station.
