Police arrest nearly 20 anti-coup protestors in four townships of Arakan State

The total number of anti-coup protestors in four townships of Arakan State has reached 19.

The detainees are: seven in Ann Township, six in Taungup Township, two in Manaung Township and four in Thandwe Township. The respective police stations have filed the cases against some detainees under Section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law and Section 19 of the Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law.

The police detained Ma Mya Win, Ko Aung Khaing Myint, Ko Yan Paing Htwe and U Khin Maung Myint in Thandwe Township on February 16th. They are being detained at Thandwe Township Police Station. The families of four detainees are unable to meet them.

Daw Ma Khin Mar Htwe, mother of Ko Aung Khaing Myint said: “The police chased me away when I went to the police station to meet my son. I am not allowed to meet my son. The police should allow us to meet all detainees.” 

The police filed the cases against four detainees under Section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law and Section 19 of the Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law.

Ma Chit Su Lwin, daughter of U Khin Maung Myint said: “My father did not participate in the protest. The police arrested him when he called for the release of detained protestors.”
