The Karenni People’s Defence Force (KPDF) that is being set up to defeat the military coup must have an organizational set-up and basic policy, said a spokesperson of the Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC).

“It is not easy to form an armed organization. The armed organization must have founding principles and policies. Only with a coherent policy, can the armed organization carry out its strategic work.”

A statement on the formation of the Karenni People’s Defense Force (KPDF) on May 7th was circulated on social media. In addition, the People’s Defense Force (Demawso) which was formed on May 6th said it would root out terrorist acts committed by the junta, such as the killings and unfair arrests of the people in cooperation with the National Unity Government (NUG) and the relevant organizations.

“The public has started engaging on this project. It is too early to say how the KNPP will participate in it. We don’t oppose to the formation of the People’s Defence Force by the public. There should be clear-cut. I cannot say exactly how the KNPP will participate in and manage it”, said Khu Daniel, Secretary-2 of the KNPP.

He proposed “It is important that the newly-formed People’s Defence Forces must have a plan as to who will govern and manage it. It needs sound leadership.”

The formation of the KPDF aims to implement the genuine federal democracy system, and to cooperate in the formation of the township-level defence forces, to give protection to the people protesting against the terrorist military council. It must also join other ethnic states by affiliating with the NUG, the CRPH and the official EAOs of Karenni State.
