The number of eligible voters in Kachin State for the 2020 General Election has increased by nearly 300,000, compared to more than 800,000 eligible voters in 2015, according to the figures released by the Kachin State Election Sub-Commission.

“Kachin State has an estimated population of 1,570,000. There are around 1,090,000 eligible voters for 2020 General Election—around 360,000 eligible voters in Myitkyina District, around 250,000 in Bhamo District, around 420,000 in Mohnyin District and around 60,000 in Putao District,” said U Tun Aung Khaing, Deputy Director of Kachin State Election Sub-Commission.

There were 813 polling stations in Kachin State in 2015 General Election. The election commission plans to open 889 polling stations in Kachin State. The number of polling stations in Kachin State has increased by 76 in the 2020 General Election.

The Kachin State is formed with four districts, 18 townships, 178 wards and 392 village-tracts.The Kachin State has a population of nearly 1,600,000.

The UEC has released the lists of voters nationwide on July 25th.

The relevant township election sub-commissions are supervising the accuracy of voter lists.

According to the statement by the Union Election Commission (UEC), there are 66 constituencies in Kachin State for the 2020 General Election—36 for the Kachin State parliament, 18 for the lower house parliament and 12 for the upper house parliament.

On 1 July, the UEC announced that the General Election is scheduled to take place on 8 November for 330 constituencies for lower house parliament, 168 for upper house parliament, 644 for region and state parliaments and 29 for ethnic affairs ministers for region and state parliaments.
