The number of eligible voters has increased by nearly 4,000 in the 2nd compilation of voters’ lists in Arakan State, according to the Arakan State Election Sub-Commission. However, most voters cannot check their names on the second display of voter lists as a result of the stay-at-home order imposed in all townships of Arakan State.

The number of voters exceeded 1,643,000 on the first display of voter lists. On the second display of voter lists, the number of voters has reached over 1,647,000, up nearly 4,000 compared to the first list.

“Some people were not included in the list when we carried out the door-to-door compilation of the lists of voters for the first time. Now they are included in the list in the second compilation,” said U Thurein Htut, Secretary of Arakan State Election Sub-Commission.

The voters are confined by the stay–at–home regulation and they find it difficult to check the lists via the internet as many townships in Arakan State have little or no internet access.

Voters living in the townships who have no internet access should check their names at the relevant election sub-commission office, U Thurein Htut added.

According to the statement by the Ministry of Health and Sports, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Arakan State has reached 981.

The people in Arakan State’s concern over COVID-19 and the continuing warfare has left them with little interest in the election.
