Township-level Public Governance Teams in Kachin State said they would cooperate with relevant organizations and groups which share the same common goal of building up a federal democratic union.

The Myitkyina Township Public Governance Group was formed with 21 members including elected candidates and town-elders on March 2nd.

Township Public Governance Group covers Upper House MP U in Hton Khar Naw Sam of Constituency-11, Lower House MP Daw Kay Ywal Aung from Myitkyina Township, five town-elders, five civil servants who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), two from the philanthropic organization and the CSOs, two youth representatives, three stakeholders and two lawyers.

The formation of Myitkiyna Township Public Governance Group aims to respond to threats to the public, protect those who are disrupting public security and rule of law and step up, safeguard and help the CDM, according to its statement.

The group will be accountable to the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the Committee Representing Kachin Hluttaw (CRKH). It will carry out objectives, duties and rules enshrined in the interim public governance plan of the CRPH.

According to the statement by the CRPH on February 22nd, the interim public governance groups are to be formed to collectively protect the security of the public and the rule of law in cooperation with the CRPH until the formation of a democratic government given that the army’s State Administration Council is deemed to be incapable of providing security and the rule of law.

After the CRPH’s statement, the Interim Public Government Groups in townships across the country have been formed.
