Myanmar citizens living in India will stage a protest against the military coup leading to the arrest and detention of NLD top leaders including the President and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Chin Refugee Committee (CRC) in New Delhi of India, held an emergency meeting on February 1st. Salai Cung Dawt who attended the meeting reported “We will ask for a permit for the protest in which at least 100 people can participate. We agreed to hold a protest against the coup by the army, and call for the immediate release of all ministers. We have also sent a letter urging the UNHCR to accept new refugees, if the people flee to India due to political instability as a result of the coup.”
On February 1st, the Tatmadaw seized power citing Section 417 of the Constitution. The military claimed the UEC had failed to deal with the Tatmadaw’s allegations of “ more than 10 million alleged vote frauds” in the 2020 General Elections.
The international community including the UN, the U.S. and the EU have strongly denounced the military coup. Myanmar expats in other countries are staging protests against the coup.
