MP U Maung Than Sein from Kyauktaw Township Constituency declared, “The Internet shutdown in Arakan State amounts to kicking the local people not only out of Myanmar, but also out of the world.”

The MP from the  Arakan National Party (ANP) added “I would like to call on the new government to implement the restoration of 4G internet in line with the resolution unanimously approved in Arakan State parliament.”

MP U Maung Than Sein was the one who made the proposal further argued, “We feel that by imposing an internet blackout at a time when there is no political stability and the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic amount is kicking us out of Myanmar. The prolonged internet shutdown takes a toll on health, social, economy and education of the locals and lack of internet has an impact on traders, online learners and the Arakan families. That’s why, the government needs to restore the internet.”

The submission of motion aims to enable the people to have easy access to the real-time information and have freedom and transparency among the public.

The shutdown of 4G internet access in Arakan State and Chin State covers: Ponnagyun, Kyuaktaw, MraukU, Minbya, Myaebon, Buthedaung, Yathaedaung and Maungdaw Townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in Chin State.
