More than 200 female candidates have registered to run for the seats in the upcoming election in Shan State, said the Shan State Election Sub-Commission.
There are 205 female candidates, accounting for 19.76 percent of the total candidates in Shan State.
U Htin Kyaw, Chair of Shan State Election Sub-Commission said: “The sub-commission will release detailed information about how many candidates have been chosen by the parties on 29 August. There may be changes to the names and some may be deleted,
The female candidates are 65 for lower house parliament, 20 for upper house parliament, 112 for Shan State parliament and eight for ethnic affairs ministers.
A total of 1,037 candidates—1,037 from 32 parties and 22 independent candidates—have registered to run for the seats in Shan State in the 2020 General Elections.
