More than 1,600 prisoners released under general amnesty in Kachin State

More than 1,600 prisoners in Kachin State were granted pardon on Myanmar New Year Day on April 17th. Myitkyina Prison released 505 prisoners—390 males and 115 females while Mohnyin Prison freed 1,106 prisoners—879 males and 227 females.

The Chairman of the State Administration Council granted amnesty to 23,047 inmates from the prisons across the country. There has been no information about whether any political prisoners have been included, but reports indicate most of people released had nearly completed their sentences.
