A plan is underway to open 100 more polling stations in Kachin State, than during the 2015 General Election, according to the statement by the Kachin State Election Sub-Commission on September 20.

The Kachin State election sub-commission said it plans to open 918 polling stations in Kachin State for the 2020 General Election compared with 833 polling stations in 2015- an increase of 105.

The election sub-commission previously planned to open 890 polling stations for more than 1,080,000 voters in Kachin State. Due to the health restrictions and the possible increase in the number of voters in the second list, the election sub-commission plans to open more than 900 polling stations.

The election sub-commission will open 918 polling stations in 18 townships in Kachin State—140 in Myitkyina Township, 106 in Mohnyin Township, 104 in Hpakant Township, 69 in Bhamaw Township, 39 in Mansi Township, 45 in Moemauk Township, 48 in Putao Township, 17 in Machanbaw Township, 36 in Khaunglanphu Township, 12 in Swanparabwan, 25 in Naungmon Township, 54 in Shwegu Township, 70 in Mogaung Township, 47 in Chiphwe, 18 Lawsaw Township, 23 in Tani Township, 58 in Waingmaw Township and seven in Inganyan Township.

The UEC will hold the election scheduled for November 8, for 330 seats for the lower house parliament, 168 for the upper house parliament, 644 for the region and state parliaments and 29 for the ethnic affairs ministers.

The Union Election Commission will announce the election no-go areas in October. The UEC will open more than 41,000 polling stations across the country.
