Minbya police officer shot at, restaurant owner detained

Tun Khaing — A police officer from Minbya police station in Rakhine State was shot at by unknown men on 10 September evening. Injured officer named Kaung Myat Tun was immediately sent to the hospital.

The incident took place at around 7 pm as the officer was in a restaurant adjacent to Ramaung Hall.

A local resident informed that the officer along with a constable went to the restaurant cum bar when the unknown men targeted him.

He sustained injuries on his mouth. The incident was followed by a series of gunshots in and around Minbya town.

Lately, the police detained Maung Maung Than, the owner of the liquor restaurant.

Hla Thein Aung, a member of Rakhine State Parliament from Minbya Township revealed, “It seems that the incident took place before 7 pm.

The officer luckily survived. The bar owner was summoned for necessary interrogations.

The officer was posted at Minbya police station  eight months back.

Presently he is receiving treatments in the local hospital, informed a Minbya  resident named Ko Thein Zan.
