Junta Burns Down Bonebaw Village in Ngape Township, Magway Region

Junta soldiers burned down Bonebaw Village in Ngape Township, Magway Region, an ethnic Asho Chin Village of around 100 houses from about 1:00 pm on 23 November 2024.

Following fighting with resistance forces near the village on 23 November, junta soldiers entered Bonebaw and began setting it on fire. All the villagers had already evacuated the village during earlier fighting, according to a villager who spoke to Chin World.

He said: “Bonebaw Village has around 100 houses. On 23 November, a clash broke out near the village, after which soldiers began burning it down. The villagers had already fled due to earlier clashes, so no one was left in the village—they were all already displaced by the war.”

The resistance forces fighting the junta outside Bonebaw Village were the Asho Chin Defense Force (ACDF) and its allies.

Soldiers from the junta’s Light Infantry Division (LID) 88 have remained stationed in Bonebaw Village since they burned it down. They have also planted landmines in and around the village, which, according to Bonebaw Villagers, prevents them from even being able to return to assess the condition of the village.
