Lisu National Development Party (Dulay Party) secured two seats for Lisu ethnic affairs minister in Kachin and Shan States.

The party is expected to secure up to three seats in the constituencies of Khaunglanphu Township in Kachin State.

U Shwe Min said: “Lisu ethnic affairs ministers are mainly responsible for the development of the Lisu people. The party will serve the interests of all the people if our candidates secure more parliamentary seats. They also have to perform the duties assigned by the State government.”

Twenty-three candidates from the party competed in seven townships in Kachin State, namely Putao, Chiphwe, Sawlaw, Khaunglanphu, Waingmaw, Myitkyina and Taning Townships.

In addition, six candidates from the party competed for the four seats in Mogok Township in Mandalay Region, one in Moemake Township in Shan State and one for the Lisu ethnic affairs minister in Shan State. Among 29 candidates were three females. The party is projected to win at least 15 seats.

“I think the presence of 25 percent of army representatives in parliament is good. The reason is our country has many ethnic armed organizations.”

This position is in stark contrast to the majority of ethnic parties who strongly advocate the removal of the 25% of the union parliamentary seats reserved for the armed forces which is at odds with Myanmar’s transition from military rule to a civilian democracy.    

  

The Lisu party has set a policy of working for the equality and interest of the people based on their ethnic interests.
