At least 10 senior NLD officials s from Arakan State detained since the coup

At least ten top leaders from Arakan State National League for Democracy (NLD) have been detained and arrested since the Feb 1 coup, said a NLD leader who declined to be named.

The ten detainees are ex-Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, former Lower House MP U Ye Khaung Nyunt from Gawa Township, former Development Affairs Minister U Min Aung, Toungup Township NLD U Tin Thein Aung, Arakan State NLD Vice-Chair U Soe Lay, Former Lower MP Daw Ni Ni May Myint from Toungup, former Upper House MP Daw Chit Chit Chaw from Toungup Township, U Nyi Pu’s daughter Daw Moe San Suu Kyi, former Lower House Candidate U Tun Hlaing from Sittwe Township.

In addition, the junta has detained Daw Ni Ni May Myint’s younger brother Maung Hein Myint Htet, Ko Thant Zin Phyo from Toungup Township NLD and U Nyi Pu’s personal assistant U Kyi Soe Tun from Gwa Township.

On May 8thsoldiers and police arrested the Vice-Chair of Arakan State NLD U Soe Lay, at the NLD headquarters in Yangon Region.

Except for U Soe Lay, Daw Moe San Suu Kyi and Maung Hein Myint Htet, all the other NLD detainees have been charged at their respective township and district courts.

Soldiers and police arrested ex-Chief Minister U Nyi Pu nine days after the coup for the second time. On February 11st, Lower House MP U Ye Khaung Nyunt from Gwa Township was detained.

The police arrested former Development Affairs Minister U Min Aung for participation in the anti-coup protest in Toungup on February 9th.

He has been charged under Section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law, and Section 19 of the Peaceful Procession and Peaceful Assembly Law. He is being detained at Khalaya-544 in Taungup-based Battalion, according to his family.

Ma Kyi Kyi Oo, daughter of U Nyi Pu said: “I am concerned for my father’s health condition. I heard the news that my father is not in good health. I cannot meet him in person.”

U Ye Khaung Nyunt has been charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 114.

The junta released some of the anti-coup protesters detained in Toungup, Gwa, Thandwe, Mannaung and Ann Township in Arakan State.

On May 9th, soldiers and police arrested three youth including NLD youth in-charge Ma Moe San Suu Kyi, daughter of U Nyi Pu in Hledan Township in Yangon.

I don’t get any information about the detainees, said Moe San Suu Kyi’s sister said.
