The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) issued a five-point statement, appealing to the United Nations, International governments, and humanitarian organizations for immediate help.

The Karenni people began to defend themselves and fight back on May 20th, followed by daily clashes between the people and the regime’s forces.

This has resulted in more than one hundred thousand people being displaced from both urban and rural areas, who have been forced to flee for safety.

The KNPP’s statement dated June 3

1.  We call on the Myanmar military regime to immediately stop the killing and the detention of aid workers who are delivering assistance to the people.

2.We call on the Myanmar military regime to immediately allow food supplies and consumer products into Karenni (Kayah) State by opening access via roads and other means that are currently blocked.

3.Call on the Myanmar military regime to immediately cease using excessive force against civilians and stop airstrikes and artillery shelling being fired into residential areas.

4.To provide immediate humanitarian assistance for displaced people, including health care support to help prevent outbreaks of diseases.

5.To hold the Myanmar military regime accountable for its acts of extreme armed aggression against the people, which have escalated the situation to civil war.
