Kachin Independence Army (KIA) launched a reprisal on a military camp in the west of Kachin State on March 11st about one month after the military killed the peaceful anti-coup protestors.

The Brigade-9 Batallion-26 under the KIA attacked the military camp near Salzin village at around 3 am on March 11st. A local said: “From 3 am I heard the sound of fighting. When I went to the military camp, I found a pile of ashes there. The KIA forces left the camp at around 5 am.”  There are reports of casualties in the KIA’s raid on the military camp. Some soldiers from the army have escaped.

Col Naw Bu, the information officer of the KIO headquarters said: “We constantly demand the army to avoid brutal crackdowns.  But the army attacked the people. It is not a good solution to the problem. It is undemocratic. I would like to call on the public not to be afraid,

and to carry on working for their desired goal.”

Colonel Naw added “The army conducted an aerial attack on the KIA’s battalion-26 by military flights after the KIA’s raid on the army’s Salzin camp.” Fighting has continued between Salzin and Tarmakhan villages, according to locals.
