Kachin Independence Army (KIA) attacked the Yuzana company-backed by the army on the morning of April 1st.

They also attacked a police station in Kyaukgyi village-tract in Shwegu Township, Kachin State.

In the first case there have been regular land disputes between locals in Hukawng Valley and Yuzana Company In the time of the military government led by the former Senior General Than Shwe in 2006, the company got the permit for the tapioca plantation project in Hukawng Valley Area.

Due to the project, the military government grabbed many acres of land owned by locals.

The Yuzana Company is located on Ledo Road in Bankauk village in Hukawng Valley in Kachin State. On April 1st, the KIA Batallion-14 attacked the company and set fire to more than 20 heavy machinery and

four warehouses, the local said.

More than 400 government employees, including policemen, are participating in the civil disobedience movement (CDM) in Shwegu. 40 police officers have joined the CDM in Kachin State and some have sought refuge in KIA-controlled areas for fear of arrest.

In response, the military returned artillery fire, and carried out airstrikes on KIA battalions 11 and 14 in Namti and Tanai townships on Monday.
