The number of female candidates, who have registered to compete in the 2020 General Elections in Kachin State, has dropped, compared to that of 2015, said U Tun Aung Khaing, the officer of Kachin State Election Sub-Commission.
In 2015, there were 72 registered female candidates.
The number of registered female candidates is 55(16 less for the lower house) parliament and 29 women candidates are registered for the Kachin State parliament, according to the Kachin State Election Sub-Commission Office.
“A decline in the number of female candidates depends on the nomination by relevant political parties,” U Tun Aung Khaing added.
The Kachin State sub-election commission received 484 candidates with four candidates having been deleted.
Two candidates have withdrawn their applications, and the remaining two women have been rejected leaving 480 candidates who will run on election day.
