The Immigration and National Registration Department is carrying out field work in Arakan State to provide national scrutinizing cards to eligible voters included in the voter lists but who lack NRC cards, according to Arakan State Election Sub-Commission Office.

The move aims to ensure that the voters will not lose their voting rights in the upcoming election slated for November 8.

The field work has prioritized the regions which have safety in Arakan State. We cannot do it in the regions lacking security, Daw Tin Hlaing added. According to the preliminary list, more than 400,000 people in Arakan State have no NRC cards or lost the NRC cards.

The field work is led by the Immigration and National Registration Department, said Daw Tin Hlaing, Chair of the Arakan State Eleciton Sub-Commission.

“The field work is checking on who on the list of voters lacks either an NRC card and also is without a national scrutinizing card. The Immigration and the General Administration Departments helps the election commission in the field work. The Immigration and National Registration Department is also working on the correction of erroneous ID numbers in the voter lists .

Arakan State has over 1,604,000 eligible voters for the 2020 General Elections.
