Huge volume of Yaba worth kyat 20 billion seized in Ann township

About 15 million WY stimulant pills worth more than kyat 20 billion were seized at  Pepadon checkpoint in Ann township, located at Sittwe- Yangon highway, yesterday, said Ann Myo Myo police station chief Lt. Col. Myo Kyi.

He also added that the driver and his accomplice of the carrying vehicle were also arrested.

According to the Ann township police station, the drugs were seized from a six-wheeler truck loaded with barrels on 5 April. A prototype Pro Box car was driven by the suspected owner, who escaped, and the police are investigating for further details.

The Pepadon checkpoint is recognized as the primary entry point for all vehicles to get inside the Rakhine State.

Locals insist that the supply of narcotics to Rakhine people, particularly the young generation, is harmful and not acceptable to them.

The border towns of Buthidaung and Maungdaw in Rakhine State are often used as transit routes or illegal Yaba pills. These drugs are apprehended to smuggle into Bangladesh across the Rakhine border and the trend continues to rise lately.
