Three detainees including former NLD lawmaker U Min Aung from Taungup Township in Arakan State will appear in Taungup Township court on March 10th.

The authorities filed a case against MP U Min Aung, NLD member Ko Thant Zin Phyo and Taungup Township Chair U Tin Thein Aung under Section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law and Section 19 of the Peaceful Protest and Procession Law.

Lawyer Daw Theingi Maung said “The authorities filed the case against them on February 26th.  Lawyer Daw Theingi Maung had a chance to talk with U Min Aung online on March 3rd. The family of U Min Aung is concerned about him as they have been unable to meet him since February 9th. Lawyer U Nyunt Maung from Legal Clinic Myanmar and I will serve as their lawyers.”

“I have to submit the letters of representation for my clients online. The judge told me that the cases will be dealt with by the police station after the submission of the letters of representation. And he said the detainees would be held in Taungup Township jail. But they are not there and their families are concerned for them.”

In fact, U Min Aung is in the jail of Light Infantry Division-544 (KaLaya) in Taungup Township while both Ko Thant Zin Phyo and U Tin Thein Aung are being detained at Taungup Myoma Police Station. The authorities arrested them on February 9th for involvement in the anti-coup protest.
