The collection of advance votes from inmates has started in Hpakant Township in Kachin State as from November 1, said U Aung Kyaw Thu, officer of Hpakant Township Election Sub-Commission.

There are more than 100 residents advance votes in Hpakant Township, according to the figures. U Aung Kyaw Thu added “The collection of advance votes from residents has started in Hmawwan yesterday. The collection of advance votes will be carried out based on the relevant ward/village-tract election sub-commission during the following days. The advance vote will be collected from Mashihtaung residents on November 6th”

The separate collection of advance votes from residents in the constituency and outside the constituency is being carried out. The sub-commission will directly collect advance votes from residents outside the constituency, in cooperation with relevant ward/village-tracts election sub-commission and police stations, while the township sub-commission is supervising the collection of advance votes from the residents in the constituency by relevant ward/village-tract commissions and police stations.

There are over 160,000 voters in Hapkant Township and 105 polling booths, according to the figures from Township Election Sub-Election Commission.

The Kachin State Election Sub-Commission said it has not collected the exact number of inmate voters in Kachin State, U Tun Aung Khaing continued.

 Candidates from 18 political parties will compete in the general election in Kachin State. There are 919 polling stations and around 1.1 million voters across Kachin State.
