Eight Mawlamyine Students have gone missing in military custody

Eight students were arrested by the junta’s contingent of 100 police and military who raided at a house in Zeyarmyaing, Mawlamyine Township in Mon State on the evening of May 17th.

A member of Mawlamyine University Students’ Union said: “I don’t know where they are being detained”.

The detainees are two from Mawlamyine University, five from the Government Technical Institute (Melamine) and one pursuing studies with distance education.

The junta had also seized mobile phones, computers, and motorbikes.

On May 18th, the Mawlamyine University Students’ Union called for the release of eight detainees. Among the detainees, are two female students from the Geography Department of Mawlamyine University.



Victims of the anti-coup movements in Mon State include over 300 detainees and eight deaths. Among the victims are under-age children.
