Election loss is due to the disenfranchisement of the majority of voters, said Dr. Tin Mar Aung who competed in Arakan State parliamentary seat in Taungup Township, representing the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD).

The Union Election Commission (UEC) canceled the election entirely in nine townships and partly in four townships in Arakan State, including 10 wards and 52 village-tracts in Taunggup Township.

“The loss of voting rights by the majority of voters is one of the reasons for our election loss.  120,000 voters lost their voting rights. The result does not reflect the wishes of all voters. My election campaign was late. The majority of people wanted to cast their votes for an Arakan party. But they only know the Arakan National Party (ANP). Our weak point is we were unable to do more for canvassing.. I think this is the main point,” Dr. Tin Mar Aung continued.

Dr. Tin Mar Aung served as the personal assistant to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chair of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD). She competed in the election, representing the ALD established by her father. She expressed special thanks to those who cast their voters for her despite the election loss.

“We will continue to do the reconstruction of the party. I cannot say exactly whether I will compete in the 2025 General Elections or not. I will decide whether I will compete in the elections, only in 2025. I am aware of the active role of local youth and their aspirations for the region. I will conduct courses on politics for them. I have a plan to extend a helping hand in the remaining townships as much as I can,” Dr. Tin Mar Aung said.

Dr. Tin Mar Aung called on the UEC to hold the election in the canceled constituencies as quickly as possible.
