The Chin State Education Officer claims over 6,000 student enrollments in Chin State, and more than 700 schools are expected to open on June 1st, a massive drop from the previous academic year with around 100,000 students in Chin State.

There are nine townships in Chin State. There is no enrollment of students in Mindat, Kanpetlet and Htantalan Townships. There are a relatively low number of school enrollments in the remaining townships.

From May 24th to 27th, the number of enrolled students reached 6,426 in Chin State. Around 775 schools are expected to open but it is only an estimate. I will tell the exact number of schools only when I know how many teachers turn up on June 1st. There are 1,516 government schools in Chin State. Around 775 schools are expected to open on June 1st. The majority of students have clearly not enrolled in Chin State schools this year.

Teaching is in crisis as the military council has suspended 4,237 teachers who have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and face temporary suspension, almost 50% of the total number of around 9,667 teachers in Chin State.

“The education sector faced many requirements even when it had 100 percent of teachers. Lack of more than half of all teachers makes the education sector more difficult,” the education officer observed.

Paletwa Township has topped the list of school enrollment in Chin State, followed by Tedim Township and Falam Township.
