There are many discrepancies in the advance voting on the ground, the candidates who will compete in the election have complained, but the UEC Election Commission has warned of “spreading false information about the election”

Dr. Hein Paing Htoo Chit, a candidate from Mawlamyine Township Constituency-2 from Mon Unity Party said: “The people shall have the right to express their views on the matters caused by the weakness of the election commission.”

Candidates said there were problems with envelopes without glue, torn envelopes and fake voting stamps, that are really happening on the ground during the advance voting. Some political parties and officials from some political parties are complaining about difficulties and inconveniences about advance voting, on their social media accounts.

According to the UEC’s statement, the complaints about difficulties and inconveniences cover both true and false information, exaggerated information, fabricated information and information based on hearsay.

On November 3, the UEC issued a statement about the release of election information. As the distribution of groundless information about the election amounts to destroying the voting and election, it is a violation of the provision of Section 58 (d) of the relevant parliamentary election law.

Dr. Hein Paing Htoo Chit commented “Action should be taken against the accusations that are proved to be false. The UEC needs to specifically take action only if the people made an accusation that has no factual basis.”

The lawmakers responded that the UEC really has discrepancies and weaknesses in the collection of advance votes.

Htin Aung Kyaw Htet, a candidate who has registered to compete in Pabedan Township Constituency-2 in Yangon Region, representing the People’s Party said: “The Union Election Commission is doing its work “but he agreed “there are some discrepancies on the commission’s side.”

The UEC has formed the negotiation teams in the relevant areas so as to solve difficulties and inconveniences during the election period.

Currently, the UEC has filed cases against the persons under the provisions of Section 59 of the Parliamentary Election Law, for double voting and the use of other voting stamps.
