Nearly 4,000 special police members will be used for the 2020 General Election in Shan State, according to the Shan State Police Force.

This figure accounts for around 50 percent of the in-service police members in Shan State.

Lt Police Colonel Than Win of Shan State Police Force said “Election security is the top priority. Our police officers have full responsibility for security. Other people are charged with the responsibility for the success of the election.  The election can be held successfully if there is no disturbance”

A special police member is assigned at each polling booth. In the 2015 General Election, 3,676 special police members were assigned at the polling booths, he added.

Serving police officers aged between 18 and 60 will be chosen as the special police for election duty.

The special police candidates will undergo the one-month training as from October 1. The course covers 10 subjects on the types of crimes, the Code of Criminal Procedures, the Traffic Rule Enforcement Law, the Police Code of Ethic, the Police Act, the Police Manual, the Election Law and the knowledge about the election, human rights, community-based policing and media ethics, said Lt Police Colonel Than Win of Shan State Police Force.
