The army is still detaining some chairs of townships, election sub-commission officials and secretaries, including the Arakan State Chief Minister according to their families.

Ma Kyi Kyi Oo, daughter of the Arakan State Chief Minister said: “My father was arrested on February 10th. We are very concerned as we don’t know where he is being detained. We are worried about his health, as he is old and has to take regular medicine. He could only bring a few medicines along with him. We don’t know how to get his medication to him.”

The chairs and secretaries of election sub-commissions in Kyaukphyu, Yanbye, Ann, Gwa, Manaung and Taungup Township, including the chairs and secretaries of election sub-commissions in Kyaukphyu and Thandwe Districts, have all been under arrest in Arakan State since February 10th- -11th.

Ma Aye Aye Naing, niece of U Tin Tun, Kyaukphyu District Election Sub-Commission said: “They are being detained at the officers guest house in the army camp without being interrogated. I cannot meet him in person. I have to send necessary utensils to the army. I can phone him via the officer during a limited time period. I don’t know when the army will release him.”

U Aung Myint Thu, the grandson of U Sein Lwin (aka) U Ba Lin, Chair of Manaung Township NLD said: “My grandfather is being detained at the police guesthouse. I have to send food to him. He is not in good health. The detained NLD secretary has lost contact with his family since his arrest.”
