The Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) finds it incredibly difficult to recognize the Union Election Commission (UEC) formed by the army’s State Administration Council (SAC) said U Myo Kyaw, Spokesperson of the ALD.

The big Arakan parties like the Arakan National Party (ANP) and the Arakan Front Party (AFP) attended the meeting with the UEC in Nay Pyi Taw on February 26th. but the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) refused to attend it.

U Myo Kyaw, Spokesperson of the ALD said: “. The ALD was formed to root out the dictatorship. The party doesn’t think about any plan to compete in the elections. All Arakan people need to remember that the war is the evil legacy of the dictatorship.”

A total of 53 parties attended the meeting with the revamped UEC. Most of them are small parties apart from the USDP the party created as a political arm of the Tatmadaw. Most ethnic parties have declined to recognize the new elections commission.
