ANP secures all parliamentary seats in Sittwe

Arakan National Party (ANP) has secured all the parliamentary seats in Sittwe Township in Arakan State according to Daw Khin Saw Wai, a lower house candidate from Yathaedaung Township.

U Tun Aung Kyaw secured the upper house seat, U Aung Mya Kyaw, the lower house seat, U Tun Tun Aung, Arakan State Parliamentary Constituency-1 and U Aung Thar Noe, the Arakan State Parliamentary Constituency-2.

Daw Khin Saw Wai added “Our party secured all four seats in Sittwe. Over one million voters lost their voting rights due to the cancellation of elections in nine townships of Arakan State. There are no candidates in these townships. I strongly believe that the elected candidates will perform their duties with a sense of accountability and responsibility.

Candidates from the ANP, the Arakan Front Party (AFP), the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and one independent candidate competed in Arakan State Parliament Constituency-2 in Sittwe Township.

The UEC canceled the elections in Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Yathaedaung, Buthedaung,

Maungdaw, Kyauktaw, Minbya, Myaebon and MraukU Townships.

In addition, the elections were canceled in two wards and 49 village-tracts in Kyaukphyu Township, three wards and 25 village-tracts in Ann Township, four village-tracts in Sittwe Township and ten wards and 52 village-tracts in Taunggup Township.

There are 107232 eligible voters and 108 polling stations in Sittwe Township. There are over 1,640,000 eligible voters in Arakan State. Due to the cancellation of elections in many townships of Arakan State, over 1,200,000 voters lost their voting rights, according to Arakan State Election Sub-Commission.

Daw Khin Saw Wai added. “The winning candidates will also work for the people who were deprived of their voting rights in cancelled constituencies in Arakan State.”
