Arakan Front Party (AFP) will compete in the election if the new Union Election Commission formed by the military’s State Administration Council holds it, said U Kyaw Zaw Oo, Spokesperson of the AFP.

“Some parties which said they would not compete in the election will run “he said. A total of 53 parties attended the meeting between the political parties and the newly-formed UEC in Nay Pyi Taw on February 26. Of three big parties in Arakan State, the AFP and Arakan National Party (ANP) attended the meeting.  However most ethnic parties are boycotting the new UEC.

The Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) did not attend the meeting with the UEC. A spokesperson of the ALD recently said that the ALD would not compete in the election held by a UEC based on a dictatorship.
