AA launches fierce offensive against NaKhaKha-5 in Maungdaw

The Arakan Army (AA) has launched a fierce offensive against the military junta's 5th border guard police battalion (NaKhaKha-5), which is the last remaining battalion near Maungdaw township of Arakan State.

In response, the junta soldiers are vigorously resisting the offensive with a series of airstrikes.

On 11 October at  around 3:15 pm, the junta soldiers  dropped four bombs near NaKhaKha-5 base using a fighter jet.

"I heard the AA fighters were firing artillery shells continuously and they fired it in the morning hours also.  There was intense ground fighting throughout the night,” said a local resident.

The military sources indicate that nearly 600 soldiers are now defending the NaKhaKha-5 base. The defending forces include the 22nd and 77th divisions along with border guard police and the military-trained Muslim armed outfits.
