At least 72 people, including flight passengers and teachers from Sittwe University of Rakhine State, tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. The health department indicates the number of Covid-19 patients in the State as alarming.

Speaking to Narinjara News, Dr Soe Win Paing, the assistant director of Rakhine State Public Health Department, informed that more than 60 flight passengers tested Covid-19 positive a day before their departures from Sittwe, Thandwe and Kyaukphyu.

Ten Sittwe University teachers also got infected by the novel coronavirus on 15 February 2022.

Among the corona-positive people, 62 individuals hail from Sittwe, six from Thandwe and four from Kyaukphyu localities, said the Covid-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee in Rakhine State.

The health ministry recently pronounced that passengers, who duly undergo the Covid 19 tests, would be allowed to fly. The decision was adopted following the increase in the number of corona-patients in various parts of Myanmar (Burma).

The number of Covid-19 cases in Rakhine State continued to grow in February. No less than 12 suspectedly infected people were sent to Rangoon for necessary tests, added  Dr Paing.

As of yesterday, there were 5,358 cases of corona complications and 501 dead because of the corona related ailments in Rakhine State.
