A total of 60 candidates who competed in the 2020 General Elections in Chin State, lost their election deposits, according to the Chin State Election Sub-Commission.

The 60 of 172 candidates who competed in the recent election in Chin State lost their deposits as they did not get one-eighth of valid votes. The remaining deposits lost by the candidates who did not get sufficient votes will go to the State’s fund.

Daw Cho Khaing Oo, Secretary of the Hakha District Election Sub-Commission said: “The candidates who did not get one-eighth of valid votes cannot withdraw their deposits. For instance, a candidate who got over 1,000 votes can take out his deposit of Ks-300,000 if the total number of votes registered was 8,000.”

Sixty candidates who lost their deposits are: 14 in Mindat District, 27 in Falam District, seven in Hakha District and 12 in Matupi District.
