The number of cases opened under the Election Law during 15 days after the election has reached 29 in Mon State, according to the Mon State Police Office.

Among nearly 30 cases filed are the cases filed against three elected candidates from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) by the opposition parties.

“Most of the cases are related to the party supporters. The cases include wrong voting and voting on behalf of others, quarrels and canvassing. The cases were filed at the respective police stations in ten townships in Mon State from November 8 to 22. The police stations are launching an investigation into the cases,” said Tun Tun, Police Head of the Mon State Police Force.

Polling station representatives from the opposition parties have filed the cases against three winning candidates from the NLD in Mawlawmyine, Paung and Kyaikmayaw Townships in Mon State, claiming they acted unlawfully.

The cases were filed by the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and Mon party against the NLD candidates.In one case the NLD candidate wore the party's badge and jacket and did not hold ID cards while visiting the polling stations.  Another candidate tried to install cameras at the places where the polling boxes were put, for the fear that there may be fraud.

U Hein Lin Htet, Secretary of the Mon State Election Sub-Commission said: “There are no serious cases. None of these cases are subject to heavy sentences. They committed the cases without any intention.”

In Mon State the NLD secured 14 seats for three parliaments and three for ethnic affairs ministers while the Mon Unity Party (MUP) won six seats.
