The three brotherhood alliance attacked military camps in Namphatkar in Kutkai Township in northern Shan State on May 31st, leaving 11 soldiers dead including the second in command.

The fighting took place between the junta troops and the three brotherhood alliances made up of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Arakan Army (AA), from 1 am to 4 am.

He fighting killed 11 soldiers including one second in command, and 15 soldiers are still missing. The alliance captured many munitions. A local from Namphatkar said: “Heavy weapons were fired. I had to hide in a bomb shelter. Two heavy weapons fell near us. One heavy shell exploded. The explosion hit one house, and one person suffered a minor injury.”

Since the coup here have been several similar actions by the three ethnic armed groups that support Myanmar’s anti-junta protest movement. The Three Brotherhood Alliance had said on March 30 that they might let a unilateral cease-fire with the Myanmar Army lapse if the junta that overthrew the country’s elected government did not stop killing and arresting civilian protesters.

Major Mai Aik Kyaw, Spokesperson of the TNLA said: “I have not got detailed information yet.” Both armed groups are active in the place where the fighting took place today, said Major Mai Aik Kyaw. On May 30th, there was fighting between the junta troops and the northern alliance group in Kutkai Township of Shan State.
