Khine Nwe Oo — The National League for Democracy (NLD) is initiating a statewide cleanup as a kick off for plans to develop Mon State. U Myo Win, an NLD candidate that won a Lower House seat in Ye Township, said NLD chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi told winning NLD candidates it would set a good example for the public.
“We are finalizing the submission of all campaign costs for candidates so we will be able to start these tasks (the cleanup) by next week,” said U Aye Min Han, NLD information officer for Mon State.
NLD party members have invited members of the public to join in so everyone can work together on the cleanup starting on Dec. 8.
“They like this a lot. There is so already so much garbage all over the country,” U Aye Min Han said.
In Ye Township, the trash cleanup will start in the areas that are the dirtiest like popular public rest spots, the market and along the moat.
Myanmar nationals working in Singapore have also planned to collect litter around Peninsula Plaza on Dec. 31 as way to support the NLD cleanup and celebrate their victory in the recent election.
Forty-five NLD candidates won seats the Mon State. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with the winning candidates from Mon State, Rangoon Region, and Tanintharyi Region at the Royal Rose Hall in Yangon on Nov. 28.
