Khattar Nan — Election officials prevented journalists from taking photos inside the compound of some polling stations in Mon State.
The Independent Mon News Agency, the Than Lwin Times and Sanaung Time all reported facing restrictions at both Polling Station No 1 and 2 in Kayotepi Village, Thanbyuzayat Township.
Daw Khin Aye, a polling station officer for Kayotepi Village Polling Station No 1, explained that photography was allowed but only outside of the general area.
“They can’t take photographs within the wall. If they want to take photographs, they can only take them from outside.”
According to regulations, journalists also weren’t allowed enter inside the actual polling station, she said.
Village Commission’s chairman U Kun Ba enforced the photography restrictions at Polling Station No 2.
Reporters faced similar situations taking photos at some polling stations on Bilu Island in Chaungzon Township.
